  • Bistro 222 : Ponsonby Road

I have been to this place twice now, once for breakfast and once for lunch. It's situated in central Ponsonby, used to be Estasi restaurant (toward KRd from Prego).

I had eggs benedict for breakfast and thought it was delicious. Can't remember what else we ordered but probably pancakes and I think they were disappointing, certainly not horrible but not the best ever eaten.

As for lunch ... well ... a different story. The have a great special $25 gives you entree, main and glass of wine.

For my entree I went with the salmon gravlax which was melt in the mouth delicious. Mum went for the eye beef fillet carpaccio which she said was delicious.

For my main I had the Scotch Fillet panfried, served with herb butter, chunky chips and mesclun salad and Mum had the Fish of the Day which was Snapper, also served with chips and salad. My steak was cooked to perfection, the chips were hot and crunchy and the herb butter was lovely. Mum's snapper was beautiful as well, very fresh and very tasty. The meals were an excellent size.

I enjoy eating at this restaurant because nobody else seems to go there, I'm not sure why this is because the food is fantastic and the service is great. I'm not a big fan of crowded & noisy restaurants so this place is perfect for me!
